Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, demons, and dark forces growing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of heroes who will split off from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.
This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).
The Reason for Division
Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.
Hence, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.
What Defines the Combat Party
Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.
At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might look out of place, but the actions of the latest installment show why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
First, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a intense opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, assaulting the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.
The traitor then paid off his debts and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, north of the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each character has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires revenge.
- The adventurer is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a hostile place.
- The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their position as important members in the powerful family could assist the group access locations they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
- Tyranny and Wicander defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the family.
This means them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
From episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Explorers and Planners parties.
Viewers can look forward to finding out which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
