Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Officers say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then discovered many other smeared automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report early analysis show the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; investigators are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the event," they commented.
Local authorities said they were working "to unravel the case" and have requested to the public for information.
An important official said the vandalism made him stunned and required to be addressed promptly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on social media, referring to the death of nine victims by a gunman focusing on individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
